“Please find below an NRPF Update for you and some news about our NRPF Project!
We are pleased to announce that we have been successful in both bids for funding – so in the coming months we should have 1.5 people in post – a full time person for 3 years (funded by the Paul Hamlyn foundation) and a further year of FAF funding for someone for 18 hours a week.
Personally I shall be reducing my hours to five a week from June and I shall train up and mentor both new people in NRPF matters, and continue with some NRPF training too.

New Reports
NACCOM (No Accommodation Network) Report on negative asylum decisions (18th March 2025)
Refugee homelessness increased at an alarming rate in 2023-2024. According to official government statistics, homelessness among people leaving asylum accommodation rose by 251%. Not only is this hugely traumatic for new refugees, but frontline services are feeling the impact too, with NACCOM members accommodating nearly double the number of refugees in 2023-24 than in the previous year.
NACCOM’s Impact Report 2023-2024 Ending destitution for people in the asylum and immigration system may also be of interest.

Rainbow Migration are calling for full repeal of the Illegal Migration Act, (but if not then at least repeal of Section 59) regarding the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill which is currently on its way through Parliament.
Essentially section 59 places countries such as Albania, Georgia and India on a ‘safe country list’, from whose nationals’ asylum claims can only be admitted in ‘exceptional circumstances’ risks, giving rise to breaches of the Refugee Convention.
In countries like India, Georgia and Albania, there’s widespread evidence that LGBTQI+ people face real danger.
House of Commons Library reports
1. Devolution (Immigration) (Scotland) Bill 2024-25 (17th April 2025)
https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-10247
Stephen Gethins, MP for Arbroath and Broughty Ferry, has proposed a bill to devolve immigration powers to Scotland. The second reading is scheduled for 25 April 2025.
This is an important bill but sadly we don’t think it has much chance of success but we are hopeful it will raise the issues at a higher level of debate.
