New payment rates of Universal Credit are set to be implemented this month. The 6.7 per cent increase for all Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits had been announced in the Autumn Statement.
Any assessment starting before April 8 will be paid at the old rates, even if it begins just one day before, on April 7, so it’s important to remember the cut-off point. This means that if your assessment period runs from April 7 to May 6, you’ll miss out on the higher rates by one day and they won’t be added to your new payment when it goes into your account on May 13.
